Flaminia Saccucci
Theres no denying that you always expect something controversial from the BA Honours class at Central Saint Martins and their show last night did not disappoint. Commencing with a video celebrating the years spent near Holburn before the big move to Kings Cross in September, the mood was set for a spectacular show of cutting-edge garments.
As Hilary Alexander stated in her speech post show, it was good to see collections that were not only creative but also had political relevance, providing the audience with plenty of food for thought. Heres a round-up of the winning collections from the fashion college not afraid to push the boundaries of fashion
This young designer won the prestigious BA collection of the year award for her dazzling collection of printed rubber. From vivid pink florals to a graphic orange and white snakeskin-style, the palette and choice of textile was ambitious yet highly effective. It certainly caught the imagination of the judges and audience alike, throwing a whole new light on the idea of latex.
Nicolas Aburn
With circular headgear, a clashing palette of burgundy, white pink, cobalt blue and orange and bags of attitude, Nicolas Aburns collection deserves a mention and 1st Runner-up award. His combination of blocking white and burgundy to show off the shape of the female form alongside an off the shoulder-style dress was a sure nod to the 80s.
Momo Wang
Momo Wangs Japanese Lolita-influenced collection, which included balloons and cutesy music, certainly put the fun back into fashion and brought a smile to the everybodys face. The mix of jersey-style tracksuits adorned with bright accessories including pom-poms, oversized and colourfully-fringed pockets and models who gleefully skipped down the catwalk was a fantastic take on the lighter side of fashion.
Ryohei Kawanishi
Other highlights included Ryohei Kawanishis knitwear collection, which wouldnt have looked out of place on the set of The Road and Toma Stenko who dressed the models in blue body stocking to compliment the sculptured printed clothing.
