Katy Perry has launched an attack on Madonna for the legendary singer’s use of religious iconography in her songs and performances.
The younger artist, whose parents are both pastors and is a devout Christian herself, objects to artists not taking religion seriously, and using it as a stunt for their performances, saying “for me, spirituality is something very important, and I don’t like it when people take it lightly.”
The starlet’s husband Russell Brand has reportedly toned down his own blasphemous jokes out of respect for his wife’s faith.
Perry directed particular wrath at Madonna for appearing on a giant crucifix during one performance, saying “I don’t understand why there are artists who play that card, like when Madonna gets up on a cross to sing.”
Fair enough Katy, but when it comes to attention grabbing stunts like that, don’t you think it’s a bit of a pot-kettle-black situation?
